| Three Students Hurt in Clash with Cops |
| Kathmandu, August 28 Three student activists were critically injured in a clash with policemen in front of Shankhar Dev Campus in Putalisadak this morning. The police fired 20 tear gas shells to disperse the agitating students who protested from 7.30 to 10 am. The injured are undergoing treatment at the Kathmandu Model Hospital in Bagbazar. The students burnt tyres, pelted stones at the police and chanted slogans against hike in the price of petroleum products. The eight agitating student unions also organised a ‘mask rally’ from Amrit Science College in Kathmandu. The demonstrators marched via Thamel and converged into a corner meeting at Ason with their heads covered with black clothes. Thakur Gaire, general-secretary of the All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), Kalyan Kumar Gurung, joint general-secretary of the Nepal Students’ Union, and Krishna Sharma, vice president of ANNFSU (Unified), addressed the corner meet. They demanded that the government withdraw its decision to increase the price of petroleum products. |
